An Erasmia mother is upset, after her car was broken into at a parking lot, whilst dashing into a fast food outlet in Laudium with her son, to get a quick bite, before going home.
The incident which took place this past Sunday (August 7) at around 6:30pm at the KFC outlet at the entrance of Laudium has left both mother and son traumatised. What was more disturbing for the family, was that despite many cars being in the parking lot at the time, no one seems to have seen her car being broken into.
Santel Naidoo of Senorita Street, Erasmia told the Laudium Sun, “My son and I went out on Sunday and on our way back home to Erasmia, we decided to stop at the KFC outlet in Laudium, to get something to eat. I parked my car in the parking lot, not far from the entrance and assumed it was safe there, as there were so many others cars there at the time, with people hanging around. Both my son and I went into the store and when we got back to our car, around 20 minutes later, we were shocked to find the side window of the car broken and the iPhone of my son missing. He recently bought the iPhone with his savings and it was expensive, but these thieves, without any mercy, stole his iPhone from the car, not even caring about the hardship they put him through. Crime in the Laudium and Erasmia area, is getting too high and we are not safe anymore, be it in our homes, cars or even whilst buying food. We have to, as a community, do something about the crime before it is too late. The police and security companies need to get their act together so that there is better policing. We need to live a free life instead of living like prisoners. I’m not sure how many thieves were involved in breaking into our car, but I have heard that the thieves work as a gang, with some keeping an eye on us and passers bye whilst others do the actual beak-in.”
Eauhweed Cheema, a resident of Senorita Street in Erasmia, told the Laudium Sun, “It is not safe at all for us to even rush in and buy take away food from the food outlets, because these thieves are watching us all the time. We need to check our backs constantly as we are always in fear of getting robbed. The police must be smarter in catching and stopping these criminals from making our lives a living hell.”
Thulani Mabuza Manager of KFC Laudium told the Laudium Sun,” I am not aware of any incident related to an iPhone stolen from a car, but this place is not dangerous. Our parking is safe and no one has reported to us, any incident of theft during past months.
