Cllr Patel’s new WhatsApp number: 064 503 7483

I am humbled by the faith and support that the overwhelming majority of Ward 61 voters have shown me and I want to thank everyone for their support. At the same time, I want to assure all residents of Ward 61, that I will serve all equally as your Ward Councillor.

Although only having been sworn in this week, November 22, as your new Councillor, I have been thrown into the deep-end, since the voting results were confirmed, early November. Aside from rolling black-outs that continue to plague us, we have had a number of power outages caused by violent storms. It was not easy to liaise with and pressure officials to get work done as the Councillor-Elect at that time. However, with the assistance of Alderman Essop, I have managed to navigate through the past approximately three weeks to ensure that our basic service delivery needs were addressed.

The immediate steps as your Councillor, will be to listen to all organisations and sections of the community to establish the needs of Ward 61. This will be done by dividing the Ward into specific areas, as well as to obtain input from all sectors of our community; business, religious, social welfare, sporting, youth, elderly and others.

The information on issues or challenges faced by the community will then be consolidated into a plan for Ward 61 for the next five years (to be reviewed and updated annually). This plan will be a live document and can then be used to measure my performance against the needs and priorities of our broader community. We are planning to complete this process, hopefully by the end of February 2022.

In addition to the above, I will provide monthly reports,  as a feedback to the community. The Councillor’s office at the Laudium Community Centre will remain open during office hours and I will be available for appointments after hours. A new direct Councillors line (Phone/WhatsApp) has been activated and all service delivery related issues should be reported through this platform. WhatsApp groups per area will be setup for reporting purposes.

My NEW contact number for this purpose will be: 064 503 7483. All other contact numbers will no longer be used for council matters.

I humbly appeal to all residents to assist me to effectively represent you equally and effectively and you can start as follows:

· Report any Tshwane service-related problems as per the communication platforms below and then send the ref. number together with a short summary of the problem to:

064 503 7483.

· I will create new community groups to effectively liaise with all sections of our community as it is not practical or realistic to be included in all the existing (WhatsApp) community groups/forums.

Work that has been done since being Councillor Elect:

: · Liaison with the electricity department and personally monitoring the repair work to restore power to most parts of our ward after the violent storms experienced last week.

· Liaison with the water department to ensure water provision is restored to most parts of Gerhardsville.

· Meeting with residents of Itireleng and Laudium to discuss various issues.

· Meeting with individuals and sectors upon request, such the Laudium Taxi Association.

· Personally, monitoring the tree cutting on 3rd Avenue.

Lets put our heads, hearts and hands together to make Ward 61 a better place to live in. Remember, team work makes the dream work.

Residents, once again, the Covid infection numbers are increasing; stay safe and follow the government protocols.
