On Thursday, Nov 10, the Rehabilitation Team from Laudium Community Healthcare Centre (LCHC), more commonly known as the Laudium Hospital hosted a Fun Walk in order to honour the elderly citizens of Laudium and surrounding areas.

According to the Gauteng Older Persons Rights Strategy 2020- 2025, it was identified that elderly citizens are often neglected and do
not receive the care and services that they require. In order to combat this, the Rehabilitation Team of LCHC hosts a Senior Citizen Group every Thursday with the senior citizens of Laudium as well as Olivenhoutbosch, in order to identify their needs. These groups are focused on health promotion, health education and disease prevention. This is achieved by offering health talks, bringing the services into the community by screening during these groups, as well as promoting healthy and active aging by encoring the members to exercise in various ways. One example of this is by hosting Fun Walks.

The team has been working tirelessly to make this Fun Walk the major success that it was. This event, which had a turnout of plus-minus 350 attendees (excluding the various stakeholders and hosts involved in the event), started off with the provision of tea, scones and biscuits. The senior citizens then participated in a walk around the stadium, and each participating member received their medal. Thereafter there was music and dance for entertainment. Lunch and snacks were served throughout the day. Each member received a Nativa personal care package before leaving.
