Hopes that “Mathousand“ spends thousands of days in prison

The arrest and imminent appearance in court, of an alleged kingpin believed to be involved in several crime attacks in the Laudium CBD, has brought some hope for safety in the area.
Local residents and businesses in the CBD have, for a long time, been complaining about the high crime in the area. Fingers have often been pointed towards a gang of thieves pretending to be car guards, who have been harassing both shoppers and businesses through their criminal activities, including by jamming the car remotes of shoppers who think they have locked their cars, with the culprits then stealing whatever they can get their hands on, from inside the unlocked car.
Often, the name of the alleged kingpin of the gang, disguised as a car guard, known as “Mathousand” was mentioned as the “brains” behind many of the thefts in the CBD, by both businesses and the formal car guards posted in the area by business. Many feared “Mathousand” and dared not confront him for fear of being harmed by him or his cronies.
Shaheen Osman, chairperson of the Laudium Business Forum, told the Laudium Sun, “It is with great relief that our forum has learned that one of the allegedly most terrorizing thugs has been arrested, after robbing someone near the CBD. He has been threatening our people and workers over a span of years, throughout the area. He, together with an accomplice, recently robbed a resident on 13th Avenue, in front of Jumma Mansions, at around 12pm. Thankfully, community members gave chase and managed to at least arrest an accomplice. Skilled police detectives, Sergeant Phehle and Naidoo, through their quick action then arrested the “kingpin,” for aggravated robbery, armed with a knife. I pray that justice will be served so that he can be removed from our society. The Business Forum in Laudium commends and salutes the work done by Station Commander Nkwane, and her team, especially acting Branch Commander Sarah Ndora, Sergeant Naidoo and Sgt Phehle, for their professional and hardworking efforts in capturing ‘Mathousand’. The Business Forum has been inundated with complaints against this guy for years, as the primary suspect in our members and customers being robbed. It is a well-known fact that crime in an area affects businesses, as shoppers do not feel safe frequenting the area. ‘Mathousand’ is also believed to be the one responsible behind the thefts from cars parked in the CBD, whilst the owners are doing their shopping in the area. Since the arrest of these two, the CBD has been calm for a while.”
Vineet Rama, Deputy Chairperson of the Laudium CPF, said, “We hope that these thugs get a long sentence in jail, so that it can be a lesson to others of the gang, that the people of Laudium have had enough of crime. ‘Mathousand’ has long been a problem to the safety of our residents in Laudium. I would like to emphasize that the complainant of the robbery on 13th Ave, should be supported by the community when going to court on Monday.”
Sergeant Simon Chokoe of the Laudium SAPS, said, “Police in Laudium arrested two male suspects aged 33 and 35, for robbery with a weapon other than a firearm. It is alleged that the victim was talking on his cellphone on 13th Avenue, Laudium, when two male suspects approached him. One pointed the victim with a knife. It is further alleged that one unknown suspect grabbed the cellphone and his accomplice grabbed the car keys. The victim managed to run for help and community members joined in the chase, whereby one suspect was apprehended, but the other managed to escape. Through police investigation, the second suspect, a 33 year old male, was arrested. Laudium SAPS acting Branch Commander, Sergeant Sarah Ndora applauded members of the detective branch for their good work. Laudium Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Margaret Nkwane applauded SAPS members and members of the community for their continuous partnership with the police in fighting crime. The Laudium Station Commander further urges the community to report any sort of crime to the police without fear, by contacting the SAPS on 08600 10111 or contact the local police. The two suspects will appear again in the Atteridgeville Magistrates Court on Monday 29-03-2021.”

A resident was robbed, apparently by ‘Mathousand’ and his accomplice, just outside Juma Mansion..
