It is with much sadness and a heavy heart that the Laudium Sun informs the community of a rape incident that took place recently in Laudium, where four armed thugs entered the home of a family and attacked them. After beating the owner of the house and demanding money, the thugs tied up the owner and his children in one room, then dragged the wife into another room and raped her. Despite her screams and pleas from the husband to let her go, two thugs mercilessly raped her. The family is understandably extremely traumatised and for obvious reasons, the Laudium Sun will not publish any information that may reveal the identity of the victim or her family. One of those who spoke to the Laudium Sun, is local businessman Akber Gani, who confirmed the recent horrific attack, but did not divulge much information. Clearly, police alone are not able to protect the community and the Laudium Sun once again calls on community based organisations in the area to stand united, (instead of fighting or competing with each other) and collectively brainstorm a plan, together with police (perhaps at a higher level), as to how best to keep residents in the area safe, so that these appalling attacks can be stopped. The Laudium Sun urges our readers who have fallen victim to crime, or who know of someone close to them being a victim of crime, to kindly inform us (after first contacting the police), so that we can alert other residents accordingly. We will also arrange for free counselling for the victims and their family members. Remember, if you so wish, you can ask for your details to remain anonymous. It is important that residents are made aware of the true crime stats in the area, so that they can take the necessary precautions. Readers can contact the Laudium Sun at info@nismedia.co.za or leave a Whatsapp
message on 060 786 7862, regarding any crime incident in the area, so that the community can be forewarned.
