Laudium Primary School held a ‘Career Day’ last week, with learners, educators and guests excited as the young future leaders of the country, expressed their interest in various career choices.

Lettie Maile, teacher and organiser of the school’s ‘Career Day’ event, enthused to the Laudium Sun, “Learners in the Grade 7 group from our school, dressed up and represented their career choice with much excitement. Special invitations from the school were sent to professionals from the Laudium community, to showcase to the learners what can be expected when making certain career choices.”

This year the school celebrated ‘Career Day’ over two days, due to its rotational time table. Many guest speakers attended the event including Ward Councilor Candidate Naeem Patel, Councilor Essop, Shakeel Bhaktawer and his team from Laudium Disaster Management (LDM), Pastor Kevin from Bethesda Revival Church and Guru Emmanuel Marian.

The guests took time off to give the learners motivational talks, which included the value and importance of making the right career choices. Naeem Patel told the Laudium Sun, “Whilst it is important that learners follow a career which has good employment prospects, it is also important that our youngsters choose a career that they have a passion for. Unfortunately, we have so many youngsters with degrees, who cannot find a job. Thus it is important to have a balance between passion and practicality.”

Nabawi Mahomed Ali Jaffer of the LDM demonstrated the equipment they use when extinguishing fires, cutting through vehicles involved in accidents in order to rescue those trapped inside and the general saving of lives. The LDM also gave out gift hampers to the learners, which included reflector safety vests and water bottles.

Francios Hoffmann, Principal of Laudium Primary School also gave a motivational speech to the Grade 7 learners. Hoffman highlighted the importance of hard work in school subjects, personality characteristics and study equipment the learners should use in order to achieve their dreams.”
