Outgoing chairperson, Shaheen Osman.

The Laudium CPF, serving the area of the Laudium Police station precinct, has collapsed, after the sudden and abrupt resignation of it’s exco members.

Effective CPF’s are crucial in the fight against crime, as they are supposed to be the voice of the community, and raise issues with the local police, concerning safety and security which affects the community. CPF’s are, in essence, the ‘watchdog’ of the community, ensuring that the police serve and protect the community as enshrined in the constitution of the Republic of South Africa and in terms of the Police Act. However, clearly, the Laudium police have over the years, failed dismally to serve and protect the community and have lost credibility amongst many residents.

In a statement released on behalf of the CPF, outgoing chairperson, Shaheen Osman, said, “We hereby take this opportunity to inform the community, the Laudium SAPS, & the office of the MEC, of the resignation of the Executive of the Laudium CPF. After serving a period of 5 years, the exco members took a decision to step down and allow room for new officials to fill the position of the Laudium CPF exco. Having said so, the past five years have been challenging, through which this CPF served under 2 different Station Commanders and the recent acting Station Commander. We served through various challenging times and with the outbreak of Covid 19, it made our task even more challenging. Our resignation is with immediate effect, as of Wednesday February 23. It has been an honour serving our community & we believe that a new team will bring fresh new energy to serve the community. We wish the residents of Laudium every success for the future. Stay safe, report crimes & God Bless.”

According to sources the mass resignation of the exco was as a result of its chairman, Shaheen Osman, first giving notice to resign due to him selling his business in Laudium and him no longer living in the Laudium area. The other exco members seemingly were not confident enough to carry the baton of the CPF and chose to rather cop-out by resigning immediately, without even waiting for a new CPF to take over.

*The Laudium Police Station Commander was unavailable to comment on the sudden resignation of the CPF exco.

Vice chairperson, Vineet Rama, was not prepared to hold the fort.
Exco member, Nazneen Shaikh Ahmed, decided to throw in the towel.
Exco member, Farhan Mahomed also resigned after Shaheen gave notice to resign.
Exco member, Minoti Bhatt was not prepared to wait for an incoming CPF before resigning.
