Following our article in last week’s issue of the Laudium Sun (March 19), concerning protestors blocking an Erasmia street, seeking jobs at the building site of a new block of flats known as Hava Gardens, the Laudium Sun has not received any official response from the stakeholders of the project (the Joosub family) or the project manager, Jako Sandenbergh, who undertook to get back to us after consulting with the stakeholders.
The Laudium Sun understands that a response was apparently posted on social media by some unknown person/s with a Hava Gardens logo attached, but with no contact details, nor the courage to attach a name to the response. Thus, we are not sure if the said poorly written statement is a hoax, sent around by unscrupulous, nameless and faceless person/s trying to perhaps mislead the community. We understand that someone from this community plans to report these nameless people to the Press Ombudsman and as such we look forward to their response.
We once more place on record that we invite business tycoon, Solly Joosub or his sons, of J&E Cash and Carry, in Pretoria West, who are believed to be stakeholders in the project, to respond to our article of March 19 (should they wish to do so). We also place on record that we telephonically called Solly Joosub at J&E Cash and Carry, on Thursday afternoon, March 18, for comments on our previous story, before going to print, on telephone number 012-327 5000, but without joy. We believe that Solly or his sons, as stakeholders of this new block of flats in Erasmia, can shed light concerning the protest and more so on the company’s policy concerning the employment of locals living in the area. We also believe that even though the hiring of laborers may be the responsibility of the developer, it is our contention that the stakeholders would have certain influence in this regard. We also want to place on record that the Laudium Sun does not regard law abiding and unemployed residents as ‘mobs’.
