Shireen, married Dawood Ballim on July 25, 1970. The couple lived their earlier years in Marabastad, until the Group Areas Act came into place and they had to move to Laudium, where they made their home. They spent 52 wonderful years of marriage together, until Shireen was called to rest by a Higher Power.
Rienie has been one of the neighborhood’s mothers to all the young boys and girls who grew up in and around Bengal Street. Many remember Aunty Rienie sitting on the stoep, always talking to the young boys and girls passing by from school, giving them encouragement and motivation and always greeting them with a smile on her face and a joke or two. She has always been a motivation to her colleagues and friends at the Laudium Cancer Association.
Shireen always had positivity within her, and a smile on her face, never a dull moment when Shireen was around. She was always cracking jokes when around people and at gatherings, Shireen was the life of the function.
She has left behind so many memories within the hearts of people in the community and her family and friends, with her kind, loving and giving heart. Shireen will be sadly missed by her family and friends, for the beautiful soul she was. An individual such as Shireen is hard to forget. Her laughter and her spontaneous ways were her biggest characteristics. She was an encouragement to many individuals in the community, young and old.
Shireen is survived by her husband Dawood, her 3 sons; Imraan, Tahier and Zunaide, her daughter-in-law, Tasneem and her grandchildren whom she adored more than life itself.
May Allah (SWT) grant Shireen Ballim the highest abode in Jannah, Ameen Thuma Ameen. Shireen will be sadly missed by many.
