Our best wishes to all learners of 2021

After having the longest holiday in recent times, millions of learners across our country returned to school this week.
2020, the year of lockdowns due to Covid19, will be remembered as the most disruptive and difficult year for school learners, due to the on-going closing of schools, the rotation of attending classes and the challenges of learning online. In particular, the Class of 2020 faced the biggest challenge, as they had to write external exams, being the finals of their schooling career. As President Ramaphosa said this week, in reference to the Class of 2020, “South Africa is a young nation, with a youthful population. Too many young people are disillusioned, frustrated and unsure of where to go for support. But our youth are also resilient.This is a most remarkable group of learners, who were determined to learn and to study under the most difficult conditions. They must be commended for their perseverance and for their steadfast commitment to achieving their ambitions.”
Going forward, the Laudium Sun prays that the curve of the Covid19 spread, will soon be flattened and that 2021 will be easier and less stressful for all our school learners, those at tertiary education level and our educators. Our best wishes are with all grade R learners, entering a new phase of their lives, embarking on a schooling career in excess of a decade. May they have a safe and pleasant academic adventure over the next 13 years. As Madiba said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
