– Case No: 43345/2021. Concerned residents of Ward 61 in Tshwane (including Laudium), have, through a number of organizations in the area, filed papers last night, in the High Court of Pretoria on an urgent basis, to compel the Tshwane Council & Rand Water to immediately restore water supply to the area. According to the attorney acting for the applicants, Naeem Essop, of the Tayfin Group, the matter would be heard on an urgent basis today (Friday) via Teams (Zoom) at 2 pm. The Laudium area has once again been without water, this time since Saturday last week. Those also cited in the papers, are the Mayor, Rand Water CEO, the Premier of Gauteng & the Minister of Water & Sanitation. Mahier Tayob of the Tayfin Group said, “We were approached by various residents of Laudium, to assist in compelling the relevant authorities to restore the water situation. We decided to assist on a pro bono basis, as this problem of water cuts has been going on for too long in Laudium”. Councillor Essop of Ward 61, said, “I am glad that the community has decided to take legal action, as I’m tired of the blame game both the council & Rand Water have been playing for a long time, whilst our people have to suffer without water”. Ward councillor candidate, Naeem Patel, said, “It’s about time that the Council & Rand Water take the residents of Laudium seriously. I fully support the court action”.
