Reports of looters planning to attack the Laudium CBD have been surfacing, with most businesses closing doors out of fear.
Councillor Essop confirmed to the Laudium Sun that he had received unconfirmed reports from residents of looters planning to attack the laudium CBD, but this has not been confirmed by police. “We nevertheless have called for an urgent meeting now with police & all the relevant security role players. We will be asking for police & defence force backups, as there is panic in Laudium & surrounds”.
Shaheen Osman of the Laudium Business Forum, confirmed that businesses in the area are in panic mode and are closing doors, adding, “We meeting the police this afternoon together with councillor Essop to address this urgent issue”.
The defense force have been given the go ahead to mobilize in hot spots of Gauteng & KZN & all leave for police officials has been cancelled.
Update- Meeting with Laudium police concluded. Apparently there is no imminent threat of looting in the area, but police will be on standby.
