It seems that the local police are just not interested in being pro-active in the fight against crime in Laudium, as criminals continue to walk or drive freely through the streets of Laudium, neither being questioned as to their whereabouts, nor searched by the police.

It is clear that if the current trend of crime is allowed to continue by police, very soon the area will be infested with criminals who will be committing more serious crimes, as they ‘upgrade’ themselves from petty crime to robberies, where violence could be used. It is frightening, to say the least, that so many nyaopes who are freely coming into the area, have turned to crime and are getting away with it, which will only encourage them to steal bigger things. In the past week that was, the Laudium Sun received yet another report of a break-in into a house, that is partly used as an office.

This follows the home/office of Jeetu Mistry on Mink Street, being ransacked by thieves, resulting in a number of items being stolen. Employee, Deeshaan Pillay (22) who is employed by Capiter Insure FSP, who have an office in Laudium also, explained to the Laudium Sun what transpired, leading to the discovery of the theft. “On Monday at around 8am when I opened the office that we have at the MinkStreet double story house, all seemed normal. But when I went into one of the offices downstairs, I was shocked to see that the computer in that room was missing. I immediately went outside to call my boss Jeetu, who lives in Centurion, as I was afraid that perhaps those responsible for the theft were still inside the house. I told him that the place had been broken into because I noticed that the computers in the one room were gone. I explained to him that I did not check all the rooms and even the rooms upstairs, as I was not sure if the thieves were still inside the house. He then instructed me to call the Laudium Police which I did and after waiting for them to arrive, I went inside with them. We learnt that a number of computers and other items were stolen and that the thieves had entered the premises through an upstairs window. Besides the computers that the thieves stole, they also stole personal things belonging to Jeetu’s parents which were in the rooms. A case has been opened at the Laudium Police Station and I really hope that the thieves are caught.”

Nearby resident, Maqsud Patel, of Mink Str, told the Laudium Sun, “Police are not stepping up in catching criminals. They actually want us to tell them who the criminals are, who stole our things, instead of them doing their detective work to find out who the criminals are. We are living in very dangerous times as crime is not getting less.”

As per the norm, Sgt Chokoe of the Laudium SAPS, told the Laudium Sun, “There is a case that has been opened and it is under investigation.”

Capiter Insure FSP employee, Deeshaan Pillay, said he was shocked to notice a computer missing when he opened the office on Mink Str, Laudium.
Mink Str resident, Maqsud Patel, said the police are not doing their detective work to find out who the criminals are.
