Over the past few years, residents have sadly seen this once beautiful South African suburb, slowly but surely, sliding into a deplorable state of decay. Unfortunately, it is no longer a pleasant sight to drive through the streets of Laudium…rubbish and other filth piled up on many street corners, long grass on corner kerbs making it unsafe for motorists to spot oncoming cars, non-functional street lights and falling street signs, have become the norm in Laudium. Off course, let’s not forget the continuous non-functional traffic lights at the entrances to Laudium and the constant harassment by nyaopes at street corners and shopping areas. The failure of the Council to at least close trenches after repairing water leaks, speaks volumes of the contempt with which residents are looked upon by those in authority. Even visiting the graves of dear ones at the local cemetery has become a mission, as it is a given that mourners would be ambushed by nyaopes for money, despite previous complaints to top officials in Council to take action against them. Complaining to the council over the years has certainly not yielded any results. It is time that residents in Laudium and surrounding areas stand united as a strong body and speak with one voice, saying to the politicians and officials that enough is enough and not anymore. Enough of crime, enough of grime. Certainly the time to form an all-inclusive, effective and united Residents Association in the area, has now arrived, in order to lead and save Laudium.

No light at end of this tunnel: There is not even a light fitting on this street pole on 8th Ave.
This trench on Pendant Str, still remains dangerously open and an obstruction to traffic, after council officials repaired the nearby fire hydrant some weeks back.
