Incidents of kidnapping are disturbingly on the rise in South Africa, leaving many South Africans fearing for their lives and the lives of their families.
In the latest shocking incident that took place this past Wednesday, (October 20), the 4 children of Nazim and Shakira Moti of Polokwane, were abducted on their way to school in the early morning.
Just like any other normal morning, Zidan (6), Zayyad (11), Alaan (13) and Zia (15) were on their way to their private school, Curro Heuwelkruin Independent School, in Polokwane, at around 7am, but they were intercepted and abducted from their vehicle by a group of thugs, armed with assault weapons. Their 64-year-old driver had fetched the children from their Nirvana home and was driving along the R37 road near the N1 bypass, when the silver BMW was blocked by two vehicles on the road, a white Kia Sorento and a black Mercedes Benz.
7 suspects, dressed in white overalls got out of these vehicles, fired multiple shots randomly, seemingly to invoke fear and control, before they forced the 4 children out of their transport vehicle and into the black Mercedes Benz which had no registration. The car drove off towards the R81 road, leaving behind the distraught driver and his BMW.
Later, the children’s cellphones were discovered, dumped at Flora Park. It is believed that the kidnappers called a family member, and even allowed one of the kidnapped children to talk.
The police in Westernburg, outside Polokwane, have launched a massive manhunt in search of the 4 children. The high level search operation, which also includes the Airwing, was ordered by the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Thembi Hadebe.
“We urge anyone who spots a Kia Sportage grey/silver champagne colour and a black Mercedes Benz, and also anyone who has any information, to please contact the investigating officer, Captain Ntlane Rasedile: 082 565 8566, Crime Stop: 0860 010 111, their nearest police station or MySAPSApp.SAPS.”
