Diwali/Deepavali is one of the biggest Hindu festivals celebrated across the globe. The ‘Festival of Lights’ celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and hope over despair, symbolically represented by the lamps that illuminate the homes of devotees during this time. Diwali is a celebration during which homes are cleaned, colourful ‘rangolis’ or patterns are painted in preparation for family get-togethers, ‘Diyas’ or earthen lamps are lit in homes, sweet delicacies are enjoyed, gifts are exchanged, new clothing is adorned and the skies are lit by fireworks. This year, Diwali/Deepavali will be celebrated on Thursday, November 4, with the predominantly Gujarati community celebrating New Year the following day, Friday November 5. The Laudium Sun joins locals, Tanisha Nandani (11) from Olivine Street, Kavya Vasa (9) from Jewel Street, and Mahir Patel (15) and Vivek Patel (13) from Olivine Street (pictured above) in wishing all our Hindu readers an absolutely brilliant (in every meaning of the word) Diwali/Deepavali… and a glorious New Year to the Gujarati community, one that promises to cover the power-triad: health, wealth and happiness.
