Celebrating Heritage Day… full of fun… family braais… music
Laudium Stadium – All welcome
Heritage Day is a South African public holiday, honouring the culture, diversity and traditions of our Rainbow Nation, each year on September 24. The day serves as a reminder that our country belongs to all its people.
Locally, Heritage Day will be celebrated this Saturday in a big way this year, as Laudium hosts the Marabastad reunion at the Laudium Stadium from 9am to 5pm. The reunion is intended to bring former Marabians together, after being separated during the group areas act.
Cllr Naeem Patel told the Laudium Sun, “The intention of the day is to reunite and bring back the memories of the Marabi life. Buses provided by the City of Tshwane will be coming from Eersterust and Lotus Gardens. Laudium will have a bus passing through designated points to pick up local residents attending the event. The pick up points for Laudium are 8am: Ps Gono Church (19th Ave). Thereafter to Foodline and to the Meelade-Mustafa Mosque (Green Mosque) on Bengal Street, Ext 3. Final pick up point is at Himalaya Heights, opp Shell Garage and then to Bangladesh flats (old flats). All buses lead to the stadium. The day will begin with a march by the Pretoria Muslim Youth Brigade, joined by others. The event will include well known DJs, dancers, a live band, the star attraction being the famous musician, Gordon Franks. Other activities to keep the young and old entertained, include jumping castles for the kids and face painting among others. Provision for a bring and braai area has been made, for families and friends to get together, and there will also be a tuck shop open at the stadium. The day does not end there, as there is an after party at the Laudium Community Centre at 6:30pm. There will also be a closing off event, when the baton will be handed over to the next host town,” Naeem concluded.
