Muslims throughout the world will commemorate, with much devotion, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammed (Peace be upon him), on Monday evening (October 18 – 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal 1443). The most noble and distinguished Prophet (PBUH) was born on a Monday and influenced the lives of untold many – during his own time and for all time to come. The Almighty (SWT) says in the Holy Quran that Muhammed (PBUH) was sent ‘…as a mercy for mankind… [and] all that exists.’ (Quran 21-107)
Many Muslims observe the sanctity of the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal by hosting Meeladun Nabi (SAW) programmes where various recitals (naats) are conducted in praise of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and food is distributed in his honour.
French poet-politician, Alphonse de la Martaine wrote, “If greatness of purpose, smallness of means, and astonishing results are the three criteria of a human genius, who could dare compare any great man in history with Muhammed? This man moved not only armies, legislators, empires, peoples and dynasties, but millions of men in one third of the then inhabited world… As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?”
