Whilst criminals are actively pursuing their crime spree in the Laudium area, police have still not responded to the concerns of the community, as to why they are not doing enough to stop or at least reduce the ongoing crime in the area and why they are not taking action against the many nyaopes who have turned to criminality and are freely walking the streets of Laudium, without being stopped and searched on a regular basis, by the police.
To add, there has been no feedback from police management in Laudium as to when elections will be called for new CPF office bearers, following the mass resignation of former members, after their chairperson, Shaheen Osman announced his intention to resign. It is clear that no area in Laudium and surrounds is safe from criminals, with even the adjacent Claudius area not being safe, although it is largely walled off and gated, with limited and controlled access to the area and 24 hour patrol guards.
This follows yet another incident of theft taking place in the ‘secured’ complex, in recent months, after a call from one of the staff members of the Darul- Uloom, Pretoria, that their teaching premises in Claudius on Sastri Ave, had been broken into last Thursday (March 10) and that valuable equipment had been stolen.
Hafez Ismail Hazarvi, Principal of the Darul-Uloom, told the Laudium Sun, “We received a call in the early hours of last Thursday at around 1:40am, from our security company, that the alarm had been activated at our Claudius office. At first we thought that it must have been a false alarm as the complex is situated in a well secured estate, or at least that’s what we believed. Nevertheless, we decided to go and check out the office area. When we got there, we were surprised to find that indeed our office had been broken into. It is believed that the thieves entered our premises by jumping over the back portion of the boundary wall, which has electric fencing. According to one of the security guys, the thieves must have breached the fence wiring so as to get in. These thieves managed to break into one of our offices which had valuable equipment there. Amongst the items that were stolen were two laptops and an iPad. Although our office window has burglar bars, the thieves managed to break the office widow, remove the bar from the window and then get in. It is so shocking that this incident of theft occurred in a supposedly secured complex and yet no one saw or heard anything.”
The Laudium Sun asked estate manager, Andre Van Dewal for a comment who said, “I can confirm that there was a break-in and that thieves gained entry into the property, which is situated against a boundary wall, by cutting the electric fencing after bypassing it. I believe that they were disturbed by the alarm being activated and managed to get away.”
