Following the unacceptable spate of power outages in the Laudium area recently, a group of residents got together, saying they have had enough of poor service from the government & the local council, over a long period of time.
The group headed by resident Lushika Mooloo, has formed an interim committee to draft proposals in order to launch a Resident’s Association for Laudium. When asked for comment, Lushika told the Laudium Sun, “The idea is to get some direction that we will present to the broader community for comment, after which we want the community to elect members on the exco. The recent incident of power outage has once more proven that Laudium residents need to take charge of their affairs. Also, it is important that the association be apolitical and thus not be led by any politically aligned members.”
Another volunteer of the group, Shaheen Wahab, said, “This past week has shown that we, as residents, need to be organized and lead and not be led with issues affecting us. Thus it’s important and long overdue to formally establish an effective Resident’s Association in the area.”
Presently the interim committee is working on the basis of formation in the Laudium/Claudius area, and hope to work closely with residents of Erasmia & Itireleng to form their own associations, as the dynamics are not always the same.
