Last Saturday (Sept 18), was certainly a day of excitement at the Laudium Cricket Grounds, with the Laudium under 19 team beating Sutherland High School.
The game started at around 10am, with Sutherland winning the toss and electing to bowl first. In the first innings, Laudium scored 212 in 37.2 overs. Shoaib Mohamed was the top scorer for Laudium, scoring 65 of 90 balls. The Laudium under 19 team participated in the Northern under 19 B League. Laudium under 19 won the match by 87 runs. Sutherland was bowled out for 136 in the 36th over.
The Laudium Cricket Club is an opportunity for all individuals, no matter the age, race, religion or gender. Here, we have implemented change that will enhance the motivation of the youth to compete amongst the best and guide them to further success in the game of cricket. With the help of our sponsor WWISE, we have renovated and improved the facilities for the people of the community, to suit their comfort and have ensured that no stone is left unturned with regards to the quality of cricket. Even with these upgrades, this is just a small step towards something much bigger that we have envisioned. Our goal is to become a high performance centre where every athlete can grow into becoming the next global star.
The following changes have been made to ensure comfort and security; there are now security guards at the stadium at all times to ensure the safety of the kids who come to train. Along with that, we have ensured that the surrounding area is all fenced to avoid trespassing. We also intend to implement a new system where club members will be identified easily. This is to ensure that the athletes feel safe at all times. The club is soon to open to all members of the community who wish to exercise or walk around the field on a daily basis. We have also upgraded our facilities in order to allow for people who want to hire the venue for outdoor and indoor events.
As we are heading into a new cricket season, with the club looking better than it ever has before and players motivated to give it their all, we reach out to the community to ask for your support in order to maintain and continuously enhance the facilities.
