The Pretoria Legacy Foundation (PLF), will be hosting an international luminary next week as part of its ‘A Celebration of our Legacy’ campaign. It will be hosting Dr Mohamed Keshavjee, a world-renowned author, jurist and mediation expert on Tuesday night (Oct 11) at the Al Ghazali Hall in Erasmia at 7:30pm.
Based in the UK, Keshavjee is a South African born lawyer who grew up in Marabastad, Pretoria. He is the author of: ‘Into that Heaven of Freedom: The Impact of Apartheid on an Indian family’s diasporic history’, first published in 2015. Although the book was launched in over a dozen countries worldwide, it is the first launch of the book in Pretoria, where much of the author’s early life is narrated. The foreword to the book was written by the late struggle stalwart Ahmed Kathrada. A kindle version of the book will also be released at the event at a greatly reduced price.
The event is even more notable, in that the author will release over 60 never before seen or published photographs of his early life in location, at the time officially known as the Asiatic Bazaar. Keshavjee is a celebrated icon, and is also the winner of the Gandhi-King-Ikeda Peace Award for his global contribution to peace, law and human rights. He has authored several books.
The hosting of the function will be preceded by a visit Keshavjee will pay to the Old Fort and the Constitutional Court at Constitutional Hill in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, where he will be hosted by recently appointed Constitutional Court judge, Justice Jody Kollapen. Keshavjee has also previously been part of panel discussions with other retired apex court judges including Justice Albie Sachs, where subjects including the post Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) issues were discussed.
The event will be held on Tuesday, 11 October 2022 at 7:30 for 8pm at the Al Ghazali Hall, 421 Van Leenhof Street, Erasmia. Snacks will be served and the dress code is casual.
