Savathie Reddy, known to many as Pastor Gono, was a lifelong resident of Laudium, Pretoria, who graced heaven with his presence on July 23, 2021 at the age of 63. He married his wife Rogani Reddy on September 2, 1978 and fathered 4 children.
Gono was born in Germiston on November 1, 1957 to the late Mrs and Mr Ramsamy Reddy. He attended Andrew Anthony Primary School and matriculated at Laudium Secondary School.
His illustrious career commenced at a very young age at the erstwhile City Council of Pretoria, where he served for 33 years before retiring to pursue other ventures. While based in Laudium, he assisted many community members above and beyond what was required and to this day, is known for his kind nature and professionalism.
Being in a management position at the Council, Gono led many housing projects, including the management of the Schubart and Kruger Park flats. Known for his strong nature, he fought for many employees in his role as a shop steward.
Gono was always in the forefront in community services and was also for a term, the secretary of the ANC Laudium branch in this region, where he used his influence to support the community further.
Gono was one of the founders and lead Pastor of the Pentecostal Protestant Church in Laudium and an active member of the Ministers Fraternal. He served the community at large and was actively involved in many church leadership forums and community charity organizations. He was also the founder of the Primrose Restoration Centre, which assisted to help rehabilitate many youth, who were addicted to drugs and other substances, from Laudium as well as other parts of the country.

“Our collective hearts are heavy with grief on the sudden passing of an esteemed leader. It was certainly sad, disheartening & unbelievable when we came to know of yet another dear friend, community philanthropist and outstanding personality, who had succumbed to the devastating Corona virus. Pastor Gono was an incredible, efficient & selfless individual serving the community of Laudium, always offering a hand in our initiatives, like feeding and hamper drives, to support the less fortunate.
As we bid our heartfelt farewell to an incredible soul, the impact of his passing has surely sent a shock to the hearts of those he so readily embraced.

“The passing of Pastor Gono Reddy leaves us in shock and saddens our hearts, as if it is a bad dream. My association with him goes back 35 years, when I first received a warm embrace as a friend and colleague. Pastor Gono was a true humanitarian with a heart of gold. He always sacrificed his family and put others first by assisting and helping people. His heart and passion was the dream to help especially young people, who were bound by the curse of drugs. Often times, he would take them off the streets and pay the rehab costs. During the hard lockdown, Pastor Gono Reddy was on the streets delivering food hampers to the needy and the poor. He would often times empower and find jobs for the unemployed. Pastor Gono was a community man who had a passion to serve his community. He stood up for justice and defended the weak, not forgetting he was a man of the cloth. He was very passionate about his call into Ministry and served his congregation with love and faithfulness. He held his family in high esteem and gave them his unconditional love and support. We salute this great soldier, a legend and a humble servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. He served on various community bodies and at the time of his passing, he was the secretary of the Laudium/Lotus Gardens Minister’s Fraternal. Farewell my friend, our pastor and a brother – RIP”
