South African Muslims will be observing the holy month of Ramadaan (1443) from Saturday evening (April 2) – subject to the sighting of the moon. During this blessed month of religious observance and piety, Muslims abstain from eating (also from drinking any liquids) from just before sunrise to sunset. Extra charity is also given during this month.

*Although the new moon was born this morning (Friday) at around 8:24am, it is unlikely to be visible on Friday evening in South Africa. However, as a precautionary measure, readers are advised to confirm the sighting of the new moon at their local Masaajid.
